India-bound Hyundai Creta facelift spotted in Korea

Hyundai Creta is one of the most successful midsize SUVs in the Indian market. Launched in 2020, the SUV has enjoyed a lot of popularity in a segment that is very hotly contested in the country. Hyundai launched a facelift for the Creta in Indonesia back in 2021, but it did not make its way to India. The India-bound Hyundai Creta facelift will be different from its Indonesian counterpart in terms of styling and design. The facelift was recently spotted in Korea.

Hyundai Creta facelift: What to expect?

When it comes to exterior design, the India-bound Hyundai Creta facelift will be different from its Indonesian counterpart. The styling on the SUV will be in line with Hyundai’s more recent releases like the next-gen Verna and the micro SUV Exter. The front grille on the Creta facelift is wider than the outgoing model. It will also feature the inserts found on the new Verna. The split headlamp setup will feature LED DRLs on top and sectioned high beams and low beam LEDs at the bottom.

The LED headlamp design could be similar to the newly unveiled Hyundai Exter. Since the test mule was heavily camouflaged, it is hard to tell the exact design of the SUV. The Creta may also get a light bar running across the bonnet, like the new Verna. What can be confirmed is the presence of ADAS features, as evidenced by the camera unit on the grille.

Minimal changes are expected along the sides of the new Hyundai Creta facelift. The SUV will retain the 17-inch alloy wheels. It may get some extra body cladding around the doors. At the rear, the Creta may share its tail lamp design with the new Verna, complete with the connecting light bar. The bumper and tailgate may receive minor design changes too.

Under the hood, the new Hyundai Creta will retain its current powertrain while also adding Verna’s 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine to the mix. This turbo petrol unit produces a maximum power output of 160hp on the Verna and can be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DCT. The 1.5-litre diesel and petrol engine units will continue to be offered on the Creta.

Conclusion

A facelift for Hyundai Creta in India has been due for a long time. Over the years, new SUVs have stepped in and massively raised the competition in the segment. Hyundai is targeting an early 2024 release for the Creta facelift. Upon launch, the Hyundai Creta facelift will rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq.
