5-door Mahindra Thar’s interior spied on for the first time

As we inch closer to 5-door Mahindra Thar’s debut, the off-roader was spied on again recently. The spy shots that surfaced online give a clear look at the interior of the new Thar. The seating layout and cargo space can be easily made out from the new set of spy shots. Here’s what you can expect from the SUV.

The new 5-door Mahindra Thar sports the same dashboard layout and design as its 3-door counterpart. There are some upgrades in front-row seating in the form of an armrest, a sunglasses holder, and a grab handle on the driver’s A-pillar. There may also be some additional storage space below the armrest. The test mule had two individual seats in the rear row, similar to the 3-door Thar. However, the production-spec of the new Thar is expected to feature a bench seat in the second row. It is unsure whether Mahindra will add a third seating row as well. While there was no infotainment display to be found inside the test mule, the production-spec will feature a touchscreen display with Mahindra’s AdrenoX interface.

The exterior remains largely similar to the 3-door Thar as well. The 5-door Mahindra Thar will feature round LED headlights, a seven-slat front grille, 18-inch alloy wheels, and square LED tail lamps. However, being a 5-door version, the new Thar will be longer than its predecessor. Its wheelbase is expected to stand at 2,750 mm, which is 300 mm more than the 3-door version.

Things remain unchanged under the hood, as the 5-door Mahindra Thar will continue to be powered by the 2.2-litre mHawk and diesel engine and 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine found on the previous avatar. Buyers will get an option of a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. While the power specs have not been released by Mahindra yet, they are set to be higher than the previous version of the Thar, given how the newer version is longer and heavier. In Mahindra Scorpio N, the 2.0-litre petrol engine produces 200hp and 380Nm.

Conclusion

The 5-door Mahindra Thar will make its debut next month, with an official launch later in 2023. It could be priced up to Rs 2 lakh higher than the 3-door Thar. Upon launch, it will rival the likes of the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha, both of which will be released early next year as well.
