River Indie Electric Scooter launched at Rs 1.25 lakh

Bengaluru-based EV startup River has launched its debut electric scooter River Indie at a price of Rs 1.25 lakh. Dubbed the ‘SUV of scooters’, River Indie features a bold, muscular design, and first-in-segment features. Bookings for River Indie are currently open, and the start-up seeks to sell one lakh units of the scooter by 2025.

River Indie: What’s on offer?

River India features a radical design that sets it apart from other electric scooters in the market. Up front, the scooter gets twin-beam headlamps and clip-on handlebars. Indie also gets ‘Safeguards’ which protect the body panels from hard impact. The scooter rests on 14-inch wheels which is another first-in-category feature for any electric scooter in India. Indie also offers a huge amount of storage space with a 43-litre under-seat capacity and a 12-litre front glove box. The Lock & Load pannier-stays on the sides can be customised to serve multiple purposes.

Powering the River Indie is a 4kWh IP67-rated battery pack that offers a maximum driving range of 120km. With a standard charger, this battery pack can be charged from 0-80% in under 5 hours. The electric motor can produce a maximum power output of 6.7kW and 26Nm peak torque. The scooter can go from 0-40kmph in under 4 seconds while the top speed has been capped at 90kmph. 

In terms of features, the River Indie gets a reverse parking assist, side stand cutoff, LCD dash, LED lighting, USB charging ports, and add-on luggage options. The electric scooter offers three drive modes – Eco, Ride, and Rush.

Conclusion

River Indie can currently be booked at River’s official website. The startup will be shipping out deliveries for the scooter by August 2023. Customers get three colour options for the electric scooter – Monsoon Blue, Summer Red, and Spring Yellow. The battery and scooter are covered by a 5-year/ 50,000km warranty. River Indie rivals the likes of Ather 450X, Ola S1 Pro, and Hero Vida V1.
