BaaS schemes introduced for MG Cyberster and M9

The MG Cyberster and M9 EVs are now available with Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) payment schemes. This scheme has brought down their starting price to Rs 72.49 lakh and Rs 69.99 lakh, respectively. The Cyberster is more affordable by Rs 10.01 lakh, while Rs 9.96 lakh has been shaved off the M9’s price tag. The battery subscription costs Rs 8/km. The two EVs are sold exclusively through MG Motor’s ‘Select’ retail outlets.

MG Cyberster

The MG Cyberster is powered by a dual electric motor setup. It produces a maximum power output of 510hp and 725Nm of torque. The electric roadster can go from 0-100km/h in just 3.2 seconds. Its top speed has been capped at 201km/h. The 77kWh battery pack offers a driving range of 444km on a full charge. In foreign markets, the Cyberster is also available with a 335hp-producing single-electric motor powertrain.

Inside, the Cyberster gets a 3-screen wraparound cockpit comprising a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display with 2 7-inch screens on either side. A vertically aligned 7-inch touchscreen display bridges the dashboard with the centre console. Other features include an 8-speaker Bose audio system, power-adjustable heated seats with a memory function, an electric folding roof, a Level 2 ADAS package, and more.

MG M9

Meanwhile, the M9 is powered by a single, front-mounted electric motor that generates a maximum power output of 245hp and 350Nm of torque. Its 90kWh battery pack offers a driving range of up to 548km. A 160kW DC fast charger can fully charge the battery pack in 90 minutes. An 11kW AC home charger can accomplish the same feat in 10 hours. The MPV has 3 drive modes: Normal, Eco, and Sport.

MG M9

In terms of features, the MG M9 packs a free-floating 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and a 7-inch digital driver’s display. The MPV also gets rear entertainment displays, a 13-speaker JBL sound system, a single-pane sunroof at the front and a panoramic sunroof at the rear, wireless charging, V2L and V2V charging functionalities, a digital IVRM, and more.

Final Thoughts

The introduction of the BaaS payment scheme will boost the sales of MG Motor’s two premium electric offerings. The Cyberster rivals the Tesla Model YBMW Z4 RoadsterMercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet, and Volvo EC40, while the M9 goes up against the likes of Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire.
