Kia Carens Clavis lineup refreshed with affordable automatic variants

The automatic variants of the Kia Carens Clavis MPV have become more affordable for customers. The automaker has added the Turbo-Petrol DCT powertrain to 2 lower-spec trims – HTE (O) and HTE (EX). The HTE (O) trim is also available with a Diesel AT powertrain combo. The entry-level HTE trim is still not available with an automatic transmission.

The Kia Carens Clavis comes in 3 engine options. The 1.5-litre NA petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 115hp and 144Nm of torque. This engine is linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.5-litre diesel engine puts out 116hp and 250Nm. It is available with an iMT or a DCT gearbox. Lastly, the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit generates 160hp and 253Nm. Buyers can choose a manual or torque converter gearbox with this engine.

The MPV is also available in an all-electric avatar. The Carens Clavis EV comes in 2 battery pack options – 42kWh (404km range, ARAI) and 51.4kWh (490km range, ARAI). The electric motor is mounted on the front axle and produces a maximum power output of 135hp on the 42kWh variants and 171hp on the 51.4kWh variants. The torque remains the same on all variants – 255Nm.

The interior layout and feature list remain consistent among the ICE and all-electric models. The MPV flaunts a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Other features include an 8-speaker Bose sound system, touch-sensitive HVAC and media controls, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a powered driver’s seat, connected car tech, wireless charging, and more.

Final Thoughts

The affordable automatic variants will give a small boost to the MPV’s sales in India. It currently rivals the Maruti Suzuki XL6, Toyota Rumion, and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
