Volkswagen Virtus facelift spotted testing again

The Volkswagen Virtus is about to receive a facelift. The updated model was spotted testing for the first time back in April. Test mules of the upcoming sedan have reappeared on Indian roads, most recently on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Like the previous mule, the front and rear sections of this unit were also draped in camouflage. The profile was left exposed. Virtus’ Skoda cousin, Slavia, got a facelift last month. This indicates the launch of the updated sedan is imminent.

2026 Volkswagen Virtus facelift: What do the latest spy shots reveal?

The cosmetic changes will be concentrated at the front and rear sections of the Volkswagen Virtus facelift. The front fascia will feature a redesigned grille, LED headlamps, DRLs, and bumper. It remains to be seen whether the air intake units will be updated too.

At the back, the bumper and tailgate will get major revisions. Some rework is expected on the LED tail lamps as well. As of now, we can’t confirm whether the tail lamps will be connected by a light bar. The profile of the sedan, as evident from the test mules, has been carried forward from the current model.

The interior of the Volkswagen Virtus sedan will be updated with premium elements. This includes new trims on the dashboard and plush door panels. A new colour theme for the cabin may be offered on the top-spec models. There will be a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system on board with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The driver’s cockpit will get a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Other features like multi-zone air conditioning, ambient lighting, a powered driver’s seat, wireless charging, and more will also make the cut. The sedan will get a single-pane sunroof instead of a panoramic sprawl. It will miss out on ADAS.

The Virtus facelift will remain mechanically unchanged. Like the current model, it will continue to be offered in 1-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engine options. The 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 113hp and 175Nm of torque. The engine can be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine puts out 148hp and 250Nm. This engine can be linked to a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT gearbox.

Final Thoughts

Volkswagen recently updated the Virtus with an Anniversary Edition. While the special edition model was introduced to celebrate the sedan completing 4 years in India, the timing of its launch, being close to the release of the facelift model, seemed a little off. The current Virtus lineup starts at Rs 12.33 lakh and goes up to Rs 22.06 lakh. The facelift will demand a small premium over these prices. Upon launch, it will continue to rival the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Skoda Slavia in India.
