The Tata Altroz facelift was launched in India back in May 2025. A year after its release, Tata is road-testing a new CNG model of the hatchback. The automaker currently has one of the most expansive CNG portfolios in the country. These CNG models enjoy a lot of popularity due to their split-cylinder setup, which frees up a lot of boot space. The new Altroz test mule suggests that the premium hatchback could be getting a Turbo CNG variant.

Tata Altroz Turbo CNG: What to expect?
The Altroz test mule spotted in Pune was draped completely in camouflage, but it had a ‘CNG only’ sticker on its steering wheel. Since the hatchback is only one year into its lifecycle, it will certainly not get any design upgrades along the exterior or interior. This limits the speculation to what’s under the hood.

Currently, the Altroz is available in 3 powertrain options – a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine, a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine, and a CNG powertrain based on the NA petrol engine. The Altroz ‘Racer’ and Altroz ‘iTurbo’ pack a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine under their hoods. Tata could be converting this engine to a CNG powertrain for the hatchback.
This 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine puts out 120hp and 170Nm on the Altroz Racer and 110hp and 140Nm on the Altroz iTurbo. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The output specs of the Turbo CNG remain a mystery. The Nexon SUV is also offered with a Turbo CNG engine. It generates a maximum power output of 100hp and 170Nm of torque, and offers a mileage of 24 km/kg.

Meanwhile, the 1.2-litre NA petrol engine on the Altroz produces a maximum power output of 87hp and 115Nm of torque. This engine can be mated to a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT, or a 6-speed DCT gearbox. The 1.5-litre diesel engine puts out 89hp and 200Nm. It is only available with a manual transmission. The CNG engine generates 73hp and 103Nm. Tata recently added a 5-speed AMT gearbox option for the Altroz CNG.

Tata Altroz is one of the most feature-heavy hatchbacks in India. It packs dual 10.25-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster and the touchscreen infotainment system. The 2-spoke steering wheel is similar to the one on the Nexon and Curvv SUVs. Other features include a 360-degree surround view camera with blind spot monitor, a voice-enabled sunroof, an air purifier, connected car tech with over 50 functions, and wireless charging. On the safety front, it gets 6 airbags, ISOFIX mounts, Hill Hold Assist, SOS calling, and more.
