Volvo EM90: Everything you need to know

The Volvo EM90 MPV gets the automaker’s signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED headlights on either side of the shut-off grille. It is also the first Volvo car to come with an illuminated logo. At the back, the EM90 gets T-shaped vertical tail lamps. The MPV comes in four colour options. It gets two wheel size options as well – 19 inches and 20 inches.

Inside, the Volvo EM90 seeks to recreate a ‘living room on wheels’. It has a 6-seat layout with lounge seats for the middle row. These lounge seats are heated and ventilated. They can recline electrically and also slide backwards and forwards. Each lounge seat gets its own set of controls. A roof-mounted 15.6-inch screen can fold down to host entertainment content. Equipped with a camera, this screen can also be used to take video meetings while you’re in the car. It supports phone mirroring and third-party apps. To make things better, the EM90 MPV gets sound isolation and noise cancellation tech to completely shut off the outside world.

Powering the Volvo EM90 is a rear-mounted electric motor that can produce a maximum power output of 272hp. The 116kWh battery pack on this MPV can power it for 738km on a single charge. It can be charged from 10-80% in under 30 minutes. The electric MPV can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 8.3 seconds.

“With the EM90, we’re taking Volvo Cars’ heritage and leadership in safety into the exciting new electric MPV segment,” said Jim Rowan, chief executive at Volvo Cars. “It allows us to tap new market demand we’ve not explored before and broadens the appeal of the Volvo brand to more people.”
