Tata Punch EV facelift gets a 5-star BNCAP safety rating

The Tata Punch EV has been awarded a 5-star safety rating by the Bharat NCAP. The testing body used the Adventure (40kWh) and Empowered+ (40kWh) variants of the electric SUV to perform the crash tests. The 5-star rating applies to all 6 variants of the EV – Smart (30kWH), Smart+ (30kWh), Smart+ (40kWh), Adventure (40kWh), Empowered (40kWh), and Empowered+ (40kWh).

Tata Punch EV facelift: Crash test results explained

The Tata Punch EV facelift scored 31.09 points out of a possible 32 in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) Test. In the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test, it garnered 15.28 points out of a possible 16. The SUV showed good protection to the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs, and feet. The chest and tibiae were adequately protected. Meanwhile, the passenger’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs, and left tibia showed good protection. The chest and right tibia were adequately protected.

In the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test, the driver’s head, waist, and hip showed good protection, but the chest was only adequately protected. The body was well-protected overall in the Side Pole Impact test.

In the Child Occupant Protection (COP) test, the Punch EV facelift scored 45 points out of a possible 49. This includes a Dynamic score of 24 points (out of 24), CRS installation score of 12 points (out of 12), and Vehicle assessment score of 9 points (out of 13). The EV was crash-tested with dummies for 18-month-old and 3-year-old children attached to child seats mounted in the rearward-facing position in the front passenger seat. The child seats were secured using ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg.

The Tata Punch EV facelift packs safety features like 6 airbags, Hill Ascent and Descent Control, Hill Hold Control, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), ISOFIX Child Seat Anchors, SOS Calling Function, iTPMS, and more.

Other features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, auto-dimming IVRM, voice-assisted electric sunroof, cooled glove box, rear seat armrest, wireless charging, ambient lighting, an air purifier, and more.

The 30kWh variants of the EV offer an MIDC-certified driving range of 375km. The electric motor powering these variants generates a maximum power output of 88hp and 154Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the 40kWh battery variants have a 468km driving range and put out 127hp and 154Nm. A 65kW fast charger can fully charge the EV in 30 minutes.

Final Thoughts

The Tata Punch EV facelift was launched in India back in February 2026. Its prices start at Rs 9.69 lakh and go up to Rs 12.79 lakh. It rivals the Citroen eC3MG Comet EVMahindra XUV400 EV, and Tata Tiago EV in India.
