Tata Punch has garnered over 8 lakh sales in India. Previously, the Nexon was the only SUV in Tata’s portfolio to achieve this milestone. The Punch was launched in India back in October 2021. Tata refreshed it with a facelift earlier this year. The 8 lakh sales figure all three powertrains of the SUV – Petrol (NA and Turbo), CNG, and Electric.

Tata Punch celebrates its most successful month so far

Here’s how Tata Punch has performed in the Indian market since its launch in October 2021.

These numbers account for all the sales till the end of June 2026. The SUV crossed the 8 lakh sales landmark in early July. June was its most successful, as it garnered 21,006 sales – the highest in its lifecycle. In the first quarter of FY2027, Tata retailed 60,321 units of the Punch, making it India’s best-selling SUV in that period.

The Punch facelift added a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine to its lineup. This engine also does duty on the Tata Nexon. It generates a maximum power output of 120hp and 170Nm of torque. It is only available on the Adventure and Accomplished+ S trims, and can only be mated to a manual transmission.

The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated ‘Revotron’ petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 88hp and 115Nm of torque. In a CNG guise, it puts out 73hp and 103Nm. The CNG model has a split-cylinder setup. Both these engines can be mated to a manual or AMT gearbox.

The all-electric Punch comes in 30kWh and 40kWh battery pack options. The former offers a driving range of 375km, while the latter delivers 468km on a single charge. The power output of the 30kWh variants is capped at 88hp, while the 40kWh variants generate 127hp. Both variants produce 154Nm of torque.

Tata Punch has been rated 5 stars for safety by the Bharat NCAP. It packs safety features like 6 airbags, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, a 360-degree camera, Hill Hold Control, Hill Descent Control, and more features.

Final Thoughts

Prices for the ICE Punch start at Rs 5.69 lakh and go up to Rs 10.67 lakh. It rivals the Hyundai Exter, Nissan Magnite, Citroen C3, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Skoda Kylaq, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza in India. Meanwhile, the Punch EV is priced between Rs 9.69 lakh and Rs 12.79 lakh. It locks horns with the Citroen eC3, MG Comet EV, Mahindra XUV400 EV, and Tata Tiago EV.
