Renault Duster strong hybrid powertrain sold out for 2026

After 4 years of inactivity, Renault Duster has made a comeback in India. The new model of the midsize SUV was unveiled in January 2026. It went on sale in the country earlier this week. The Duster comes in 3 engine options – 1.0-litre turbo petrol, 1.3-litre turbo petrol, and 1.8-litre e-tech strong hybrid. The automaker has announced that the strong hybrid variants have sold out. Interestingly, the hybrid powertrain has not been officially launched yet. It will join the rest of the lineup by Diwali.

Renault Duster: Shaking up the market

The booking window for the Duster was opened after the SUV was unveiled in India. Bookings made using the R-Pass are available at introductory prices. These prices start at Rs 10.29 lakh for the entry-level Authentic variant and go up to Rs 18.09 lakh for the top-spec Iconic variant. The introductory prices will last till March 31. The standard prices start at Rs 10.49 lakh and go up to Rs 18.49 lakh.

According to Renault, nearly 40% of customers in metro markets opted for the strong hybrid powertrain. The automaker has sold out its 2026 batch for this powertrain. Prices of the hybrid variants will be revealed when the powertrain is added to the Duster lineup later this year. Renault will reopen the booking window during that period.

The Duster SUV stands at dimensions of 4,346mm x 1,815mm x 1,701mm and has a 2,657mm wheelbase. Its 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 100hp and 160Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission only. Meanwhile, the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 163hp and 280Nm. It can be linked to a 6-speed manual or DCT gearbox. On the strong hybrid variants, a 1.8-litre engine is linked to a 1.4kWh battery pack, enabling up to 80% EV driving in city conditions. Its output numbers will be revealed closer to its launch.

In terms of features, the Renault Duster gets a dual-zone climate control system, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, and more. The 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system supports wireless smartphone replication. There is a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display on board as well. Safety features include 6 airbags, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and more. The Level 2 ADAS suite consists of 17 functions.

Final Thoughts

Renault has mentioned that it will consider adding a CNG powertrain to the Duster if there is enough demand for it. The CNG kit will likely be retrofitted on the 1.0-litre turbo petrol powertrain. As things stand, the Renault Duster rivals the Tata SierraMaruti Suzuki Grand VitaraToyota Urban Cruiser HyRyderKia SeltosVolkswagen TaigunHyundai CretaSkoda Kushaq, and Honda Elevate in India.
