Maruti Suzuki Jimny: Manufactured in India for the world

Maruti Suzuki plans on manufacturing at least 1 lakh units of the SUV this year, with 84,000 of these units allotted for domestic sales. According to recent numbers, the automaker is selling an average of 3,000 units of the SUV every month in India. Unlike its 3-door counterpart, the Jimny 5-door will not be sold in Europe due to its failure to meet the EU’s emission norms.

Mr Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “The Jimny has strengthened Maruti Suzuki’s presence in SUV segment. This lifestyle SUV has especially appealed to customers who enjoy off-roading experience through tough terrains. The India-manufactured Jimny 5-Door in our export portfolio will surely create excitement among our overseas customers. Aligning with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, our Company now exports an extensive range of 17 vehicles across segments. We remain committed in our efforts to sustain leadership in export of India-manufactured passenger vehicles.”

The K15B petrol engine powering the 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny produces a maximum power output of 102hp and 130Nm peak torque. This engine can be paired with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. It also receives Suzuki’s All Grip Pro AWD with low-range transfer gear (4L mode). The Jimny offers a mileage of 16.94 kmpl on the manual variants and 16.39 kmpl on the automatic variants.

Talking about features, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door gets a 9.0-inch touchscreen Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, and a 9.0-inch touchscreen Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system, 6 airbags, Brake Limited Slip Differential, ESP with hill hold assist, rearview camera, hill descent control, and ABS with EBD. The second row of the SUV gets bench seating.
