Kia Sorento: Everything we know so far

The first teaser for the Sorento reveals its vertically stacked LED headlamps with integrated T-shaped LED DRLs. Their design is consistent with the international model. The fog lamps are positioned on the bumper. The SUV appears to have a bold and menacing profile with a pronounced shoulder line, an upright silhouette, and a wide stance. The cover accentuates the shape of the roof rails. No details about the rear section have been revealed so far.

The interior of the Kia Sorento has been kept under wraps as well. The international model comes with a dual-display system for the touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. Each panel in this system measures 12.3 inches. There is wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity on board. Other features like ventilated front seating, wireless charging, powered driver’s seat, a Head Up Display (HUD), a 360-degree camera, and a panoramic sunroof will likely make it to the India-spec model. Kia will include Level 2 ADAS in the safety array.

Kia has confirmed a hybrid powertrain for the Sorento, but its specifications still remain a mystery. The international model is powered by a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a strong hybrid setup. This system generates a combined power output of 238hp and 380Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. There is a 1.48kWh Li-ion battery on board for the strong hybrid system.

Final Thoughts
As mentioned earlier, Kia has not officially announced the launch date for the Sorento. We expect it to go on sale in the coming weeks. More details about the cosmetics, feature list, and powertrain are expected to drop as we get closer to launch. Starting with the Sorento, Kia will expand its portfolio with more hybrid models. We expect the Sorento to fetch between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 45 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, Toyota Fortuner, Honda ZR-V and other SUVs.
