The lower-spec ‘Life’ trim of the Volkswagen Tayron has launched in India at Rs 41.99 lakh. It undercuts the top-spec R-Line model by Rs 5 lakh. The two variants are powered by the same engine. The Life variant has a 5-seat layout, instead of a 7-person seating capacity like the R-Line. It also misses out on the latter’s sporty aesthetic. The SUV is locally assembled in India, just like its top-spec counterpart.

Volkswagen Tayron Life: Everything you need to know
The Life trim of the Tayron stands at dimensions of 4,792mm x 1,853mm x 1,666 mm and has a 2,789mm wheelbase. In comparison, the R-Line is 4,735mm long, 1,859mm wide, and 1,682mm tall with an identical wheelbase. The standard model misses out on the sporty cosmetic tweaks of the top-spec model. It doesn’t get a gloss-black finish on the grille, wheel arches, or rear bumper. The front bumper has a silver frame, which lends it a dual-tone look. The LED DRLs, headlamps, and light bar are the same across both variants. Along the sides, the 18-inch alloy wheels sport a new design.
The interior setup of the Life variant is almost identical to the R-Line model. It does not get the exclusive ‘R’ branding on its upholstery. Since the standard has a 5-seat layout, it does not get third-row seats. The 885-litre boot space capacity is expandable up to 2,090 litres. Other features include a 15-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, dual wireless charging pads, ambient lighting, 3-zone automatic climate control, extended thigh support and massage function for the front seats, keyless access, and more.
On the safety front, the Tayron Life gets 9 airbags, a multi-function camera for distance control, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Hill Descent Control (HDC), ISOFIX anchorages, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with electromechanical brake booster, and more. Its Level 2 ADAS package comprises 14 functions, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Pedestrian Monitoring, Blind Spot Detection, Driver Drowsiness Warning & Alert System, Park Assist Plus with Park Distance Control, and more.
Powering the standard Volkswagen Tayron is a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine. This engine generates a maximum power output of 204hp and 320Nm of torque. It is linked to a 7-speed DCT. The AWD configuration channels the power produced by the engine to all four wheels. The SUV can go from 0-100km/h in 7.3 seconds. Its top speed is capped at 224km/h.
Mr Nitin Kohli, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, said, “The Tayron Life reflects our commitment to introduce global products that resonate with Indian customers. In line with our plans, we are introducing the 3rd product action for this year, with Tayron Life that is locally assembled. With its spacious layout, premium comfort, advanced technology including Level 2 ADAS and signature German engineering. It strengthens our premium SUV portfolio while delivering a compelling proposition centred around performance, space, comfort and driving confidence.”
