Volkswagen Taigun facelift launched at a starting price of Rs 10.99 lakh

The facelift version of the Volkswagen Taigun has finally gone on sale in India at a starting price of Rs 10.99 lakh. The midsize SUV comes in 7 trims and 2 engine options. Apart from cosmetic and feature updates, the facelift model has also received a new 8-speed automatic transmission option for its 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Interested buyers can book their unit for a token amount of Rs 11,000.

The Volkswagen Taigun facelift is 4,221mm long, 1,760mm wide, 1,612mm tall, and has a 2,651mm wheelbase. Its bold new front fascia features a revised front bumper with a wide air dam comprising horizontal slats. The polished grille has a sleek light bar running through it. The new illuminated VW logo is positioned in the middle of this grille. Flanking the grille on either side are sharp LED headlamps with eyebrow LED DRLs.

The profile of the Taigun facelift remains unchanged, but it gets new designs for the 16 and 17-inch alloy wheels. At the back, the ‘Infinity’ LED tail lamps have been integrated with sequential turn indicators. The light bar connecting these tail lamps houses the illuminated VW in the middle. The rear bumper has also been reworked. The GT variants come with black-painted air dam slats, sporty accents, and exclusive GT lettering.

Inside, the new Taigun retains the basic layout of its predecessor, but gets some nifty upgrades. The lower dashboard and door trims get a new Storm Grey trim. The surface finishes and inserts have been upgraded to make the cabin more premium. The new 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster supports turn-by-turn navigation and real-time destination information. The 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system is compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It has a native app market and 15 built-in apps. Other features include powered and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a smart touch Climatronic air conditioning system, a 6-speaker audio system, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and more.

On the safety front, the Taigun facelift offers 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ABS with EBD, Multi-Collision Brakes (MCB), Brake Assist (BA), 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, and more as standard features across all variants. The SUV carries a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating.

Things remain unchanged under the hood, as the Volkswagen Taigun facelift sticks with the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine options. However, the automaker has added the option of an 8-speed automatic transmission for the 1.0-litre engine. This engine generates a maximum power output of 113hp and 178Nm torque. It can also be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 147hp, 250Nm, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine continues to be offered with a 7-speed DSG.

Final Thoughts

Volkswagen has also launched an assured buyback program for the new Taigun. It offers a residual value of 75% of the ex-showroom price for up to 3 years and 30,000km. This program will be applicable for bookings received till May 31. The Taigun continues to rival the Skoda KushaqHyundai CretaHonda ElevateKia SeltosCitroen C3 AircrossToyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara in India.
