Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus score 5 stars at Global NCAP tests

Skoda Slavia and its Volkswagen counterpart Virtus achieved a 5-star rating in the latest round of Global NCAP tests. This makes them the safest sedans on Indian roads. Last year, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq also received a 5-star rating at the GNCAP crash tests. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and Alto K10 were also tested in this round and were awarded a rating of 2 stars and 1 star respectively.

Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus crash test results

In the Adult Occupant Protection test, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus scored 29.71 points out of a possible 34, receiving 5 stars. In the Child Occupant Protection test, the midsize sedans scored 42 points out of a possible 49, receiving 5 stars again.

During frontal impact in the adult occupant protection test, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus provided good protection to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck. The driver’s tibia showed adequate protection while the passenger’s tibia showed good protection. The bodyshell was rated as stable and capable of bearing further loadings.

During side impact, the head, chest, and abdomen protection was adequate while the pelvis showed good protection. In the side pole impact, the side head protection airbags provided good protection to the head, abdomen, and pelvis and marginal protection to the chest.

During frontal impact in the child occupant protection test, the child seat – installed using i-size anchorages and support leg – was able to prevent head exposure, providing full protection. Both CRS’ also offered full side impact protection.

Conclusion

The two sedans were tested together since they are produced as a part of a collaboration between Skoda and Volkswagen. Last year, Virtus got a 5-star rating in the Latin NCAP tests. Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun were one of the first vehicles to be tested under the new parameters for the GNCAP tests and were awarded a 5-star rating last year.
