MG Comet EV: Here’s what you need to know

MG Comet EV stands at dimensions of 2,974mm x 1,505mm x 1,631mm with a wheelbase of 2,010mm. This makes the Comet smaller than Tata Nano. The Comet is based on SAIC’s GSEV platform, similar to the Wuling Air EV. The compact EV continues MG’s theme of naming its cars  after a WW2-era British fighter jet.

MG Comet EV has a very boxy look. Up front, the EV sports a stub nose and gets dual LEDs and a light strip running under the windscreen and window mirrors. The tail lamps mimic the design of the LED headlamps at the front. Overall, the design of the Comet EV is very unique and something we haven’t seen before on Indian roads. MG will make the Comet EV available in several dual-tone colour options.

Inside, the MG Comet EV is decked with premium instrumentation and features. The star of the show is a dual 10.25-inch infotainment system. This infotainment system comes with connected car tech. Right below the twin screens like horizontal AC vents and HVAC controls. The two-spoke steering wheel contains several controls and contributes to the interior’s ‘futuristic’ look.

The centre control is detached from the dashboard and houses a rotary knob for gear selection, power window switches, and an electronic parking brake. The EV also gets features like keyless entry, hill assist, voice control, and multiple drive modes. Seating capacity is limited to 4 people, but there’s ample legroom for passengers.

MG has kept a tight lid on the battery and engine specs of this EV. It is expected to come in two engine variants – 30kW and 50kW. Also expect the Comet EV to come in multiple battery pack options. The Wuling Air EV offers a driving range of 200km on the base model and 300km on the higher-end model. Similar figures are to be expected from MG Comet EV.

Conclusion

MG will announce the starting price for Comet EV on April 26. We expect the EV to be priced around Rs 10-13 lakh. Due to its unique design, the EV has no true competitors, but in its price bracket, it will rival the likes of Tata Tigor EV and Citroen eC3.
