MG Comet EV: Everything you need to know

MG Comet is named after one of the British airplanes of the WW2 era. MG is known for naming its cars after British fighter jets. What’s more fascinating about the Comet EV is its compact size. Being just 2.9 metres in length, the Comet is shorter than Tata Nano. However, its 2,010mm wheelbase allows optimum cabin space. MG Comet looks exactly the same as Wuling Air.

MG compact EV: A look at the interiors

There are no design tweaks for the Indian-spec version. The only difference is the branding. The MG Comet EV gets a stub nose up front along with dual LEDs and a light strip that runs under the windscreen and window mirrors. The rear profile matches the front of the EV. This compact vehicle from MG gets a dual-tone colour scheme.

Inside, the MG Comet is laden with state-of-the-art features. The EV gets two 10.2-inch screens for infotainment and instrument cluster. Sitting right below the twin screens are two horizontal AC vents with three round HVAC controls. The two-spoke steering wheel gets audio and navigation controls on its sides. The dashboard sports a dual-tone theme like the rest of the interior. The centre console is detached from the dashboard and features a rotary knob for gear selection, power window switches, and an electronic parking brake. Seating capacity is limited to 4 people, but the cabin ensures ample legroom for the passengers.

The MG compact EV will seat 4 passengers

MG Comet will be offered in two variants, just like its Indonesian counterpart. The Comet is rumoured to source its battery pack from Tata AutoComp and will use LFP cells. It will be offered in two engine variants – 30kW and 50kW. Multiple battery pack options will also be made available. The Wuling Air EV offers a range of 200km on the base model and 300km on the higher-end model.

Conclusion

The MG Comet is expected to be priced between Rs 10-13 lakh. While it has no true rivals because of its unique genre, in terms of pricing, the Comet EV will rival Tata Tigor EV and Citroen eC3. MG is also planning on releasing a gaming-inspired edition of the Comet EV in collaboration with Naman Mathur.
