Key Highlights

  • Maruti Suzuki Jimny has now been launched in Australia, after making its debut in South Africa last month.
  • Sold in Australia as the Suzuki Jimny XL, the SUV gets the all-important ADAS package.

The 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny was launched in India back in June at a starting price of Rs 12.74 lakh. In October, the automaker shipped its first batch of the made-in-India Jimny to foreign markets in Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. Maruti Suzuki Jimny gets ADAS in Australia

The Suzuki Jimny sold in Australia is available in three variants – Jimny Lite, Jimny, and Jimny XL. Suzuki Jimny XL is the 5-door variant out of the three. Cosmetically, there is no difference between the India-spec Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the Jimny XL sold in Australia. The SUV retains its signature boxy look, circular headlights, and a vertical slat grille. It stands at dimensions of 3850mm x 1645mm x 1730mm with a wheelbase of 2,550 mm.

Things remain the same inside the SUV as well. The Australian Jimny XL gets a 9.0-inch touchscreen Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system with DAB radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. It also has a 4-speaker audio system. But the biggest change on the Suzuki Jimny XL is the presence of an ADAS package. This ADAS package is missing from the India-spec Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door. Features like automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, anti-collision warning, dual camera brake support, lane departure warning, and weaving alert are a part of this package. The 3-door Jimny and Jimny Lite sold in Australia get this ADAS package as well. However, it is only the Jimny XL that comes with rear parking sensors.

Under the hood, the Jimny XL shares its powertrain with its Indian counterpart. The 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 102hp and 130Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. It also receives Suzuki’s All Grip Pro AWD with low-range transfer gear (4L mode). Maruti Suzuki Jimny offers a mileage of 16.94 kmpl on the manual variants and 16.39 kmpl on the automatic variants.

Conclusion

Prices for the Suzuki Jimny XL start at AUD 36,490 (~ Rs 19.95 lakh) in Australia. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny sold in India has three variants. The automaker recently added a new Thunder Edition to the Jimny lineup, bringing its price down to Rs 10.74 lakh. In India, the lifestyle SUV rivals the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
