Maruti Suzuki Ignis price hiked, gets new safety features

Maruti Suzuki Ignis has been updated by the automaker with new safety features and an RDE-compliant engine. Ignis also receives a price hike of Rs 27,000 and will come equipped with some extra safety features. Maruti Suzuki revealed the price hike for Ignis in a regulatory filing. The price change will come into effect right away.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis: What’s new?

With the upcoming BS6 Phase II norms set to kick in from April, Maruti has updated Ignis’ engine to match the E20 and Real Driving Emission (RDE) guidelines. The Ignis does not get idle start/stop technology, unlike other Maruti offerings that received an engine update recently. The 1.2-litre 4-cylinder VVT petrol engine continues to produce a maximum power output of 81hp and 113Nm peak torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gear shift unit.

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis also receives two new safety features in the form of Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and Hill Hold Assist. These features have now been made standard across all variants of the hatchback, Other safety features include ABS and ISOFIX anchorages for child seats.

Other than the mechanical update and the addition of two safety features, there are no other changes to Maruti Suzuki Ignis. The hatchback remains cosmetically unchanged. It continues to come in seven trims with features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, four speakers, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, LED projector headlamps, and a TFT driver’s display.

Conclusion

Prices for the Maruti Suzuki Ingnis now start at Rs 5.55 lakh. The hatchback comes in nine colour options. The price hike will be applicable for all variants of Ignis. The hatchback rivals Tata Tiago, Citroen C3, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, and Maruti Celerio.
