5-door Mahindra Thar to launch later this year

The 1,00,000th unit of Mahindra Thar was unveiled in white body colour. The SUV has been widely successful ever since its launch back in October 2020. The offroader amassed 15,000 bookings within the first three weeks of its launch. After the first year, this number rose to 75,000.

Currently, Mahindra Thar comes in three powertrain options. The 1.5-litre diesel engine found in the base variants offers a maximum power output of 118hp and 300Nm torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The entry-level variants are only available in 2WD. The 2.0-litre petrol engine puts out 152hp and 300Nm while the 2.2-litre diesel engine produces 130hp and 300Nm. These engines are offered with a 6-speed manual as well as automatic transmission. The diesel variant is exclusively available in a 4WD configuration, while the petrol engine gets a 2WD option as well.

Mahindra is also planning to launch the 5-door version of the Thar later this year. Mahindra Thar 5-door will be underpinned by Scorpio N’s platform, making it dimensionally bigger than the 3-door Thar. Since the 5-door isn’t under 4 metres in length, it will not qualify for additional tax benefits. The 2WD variants will be competitively priced, nonetheless. The 3-door Thar stands at a length of 3,985mm with a wheelbase of 2,450mm.
