Kia Equips Its Baseline and Mid-level SUVs With Enhanced Safety Features For 2022

Kia has given its SUVs Kia Sonet and Kia Seltos several cosmetic upgrades and introduced enhanced safety features into them. This move by the Kia brand is thought to have been taken in order to justify the price hikes occurring at the beginning of the new financial year.  The uplifted 2022 Kia Seltos price now ranges from Rs 10.19 to Rs 18.45 lakhs, while the 2022 Kia Sonet price ranges from Rs. 7.15 to 12.39 lakhs.

Amongst the common Kia upgrades, the UVO Connect car tech is now called Kia Connect, which can be seen both on the smartphone application as well as on its infotainment system. Six airbags are no longer exclusive for just the top-spec variants of Sonet and Seltos. All variants get four airbags and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) as standard. The Seltos also gets a new logo, similar to Sonet.

The 2022 Kia Seltos facelift gets a retuned suspension as well as a restyled wheel cover design with the Kia logo at its centre, for its lower-trim models. It will additionally come with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), VSM, Hill Assist Control (HAC) and Brake Assist as standard. Its HTX+ and GTX(O) variants will also be offering six airbags apart from the GTX+ and X-line variants. Mechanically, it now offers a semi-automatic iMT manual clutchless gearbox in its mid-spec HTK+ trim. All fully automatic variants get paddle shifters on the steering column along with the traction/driving mode. Moreover, its HTX variant gets access to the diesel unit with a fully automatic transmission.

Speaking of the 2022 Kia Sonet facelift, from its mid-spec HTK+ trim onwards, the turbo-petrol powered iMT variant of the Sonet is now available with ESC, VSM, Hill Assist and Brake Assist. The HTX+ variant now offers 6 airbags and the 4.2-inch instrument display will be available in HTX and HTX AE models. Semi leatherette seats are now available from the HTE variant onwards. Another useful change implemented within the 2022 Kia Sonet is the replacement of the fabric loop with a knob for folding the rear seats with ease. Moreover, it will be seen flaunting a new nameplate with a different font as compared to its older version.
