Up front, the Exter gets a wide grille that is flanked on either side by LED headlamps and H-shaped LED DRLs. It rests on 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and gets flared wheel arches and roof rails along the sides. At the back, the SUV retains its boxiness and features H-shaped LED tail lamps. Buyers get to choose from six solid colours, three dual-tone paint schemes, and three interior colour themes.

Inside, the Hyundai Exter shares the design language of other Hyundai offerings like the Aura and Grand i10 Nios. There are a few exclusive changes on the Exter, like the all-black theme and a fully-digital instrument cluster. Like the Aura and Grand i10 Nios, the Exter gets a patterned dashboard design.

Talking about the features, Hyundai Exter gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto support, and a fully digital 4.2-inch instrument cluster with support for multiple Indian languages. The touchscreen infotainment system has a built-in navigation system. The SUV gets some high-end features in the form of a single-pane sunroom and a dashcam with front and rear cameras.

Moving on to safety features, the Exter gets six airbags as standard, Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Hill Assist Control, and more. The top-spec trims also get advanced features like headlamp escort, ISOFIX, auto headlamps, rear defogger, and more.

Powering the SUV is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine can produce a maximum power output of 83hp and 114Nm of torque. It can be paired with a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. The Exter shares this engine with the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, i20, and Venue. The CNG variants produce a maximum power output of 69hp and 95.2Nm of torque. It does not get an AMT gearbox option. The manual petrol variants of the Exter offer a mileage of 19.4 kmpl, while the AMT variants offer 19.2 kmpl. In CNG guise, Hyundai claims a mileage of 27.10 kmpl for the Exter.
