Hyundai Creta has completed 10 years in India. It was launched in July 2015, becoming one of the first mid-size SUVs in the country. The current model of the SUV was launched in January 2024 at a starting price of Rs 11 lakh. Earlier this year, Hyundai added an all-electric model to the Creta’s lineup. To add to that, the SUV is also available in two special editions: Knight and Adventure. Hyundai Creta is one of the most successful midsize SUVs in India, garnering over 1.2 million sales since its introduction in the country.

Hyundai Creta: The story so far

Hyundai Creta made its debut in India in July 2015, with prices starting at Rs 8.59 lakh. At the time of its launch, the Creta was available in one petrol and two diesel powertrains. The current-gen Creta also comes in 3 powertrain options: one petrol, one turbo petrol, and one diesel. The Creta was pivotal in shaping the midsize SUV segment in India. As the segment grew over the decade, so did Creta’s sales. The SUV garnered 92,926 sales in CY2016. In 2024, it sold 189,919 units, doubling its sales from 2016.

Since its launch, Hyundai Creta has sold over 1.2 million units in India. It commands the midsize SUV segment with over 31% market share. Over the last 5 years, the SUV has greatly attracted first-time buyers. The rate of first-time buyers purchasing the Creta went from 12% in 2020 to 29% in 2024. From January to June 2025, the Creta was the bestselling SUV in India in 3 out of the 6 months. The sunroof variants have accounted for over 70% of the sales this year. When it comes to exports, Hyundai has shipped 2.87 lakh units of the Creta to over 13 countries.

One of the biggest drivers behind the success of the Hyundai Creta is its versatile powertrain. The SUV is available in 3 engine options. The 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines generate a maximum power output of 115hp. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine puts out 160hp. All three engines can be mated to a 6-speed manual or 6-speed DCT gearbox.

In terms of features, the Hyundai Creta flaunts a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch display for the digital instrument cluster, a dual-zone climate control system, an air purifier, a Bose sound system, a 360-degree camera, a sunroof, an electronic parking brake, USB Type-C ports for the rear passengers, and more. There’s also a Level 2 ADAS package on board.

Prices for the current-gen Hyundai Creta start at Rs 11.11 lakh and go up to Rs 20.50 lakh. Its electric range starts at Rs 17.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 24.38 lakh.
