Citroen C3 Aircross Automatic to arrive in India later this month

Launched in India in September 2023, the Citroen C3 Aircross received a lukewarm reception in the market, largely due to its limited powertrain options and lack of swanky features. The automaker is set to rectify the powertrain situation by adding an automatic gearbox option for the C3 Aircross. The Citroen C3 Aircross Automatic will be available by the end of January. Like the rest of the lineup, it will be aggressively priced in comparison to its rivals.

Citroen C3 Aircross Automatic: An attempt to boost the sales

The Citroen C3 Aircross is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This engine produces a maximum power output of 110hp and 190Nm of torque. Currently, buyers get only one transmission option in the form of a 6-speed manual gearbox. The automatic transmission variant of the SUV will feature a 6-speed torque converter gearbox. This is the same automatic gearbox that does duty in the Indonesian variant of the SUV. It is sourced from Aisin, a Japanese outfit.

The C3 Aircross is underpinned by the CMP platform which also does duty on its hatchback cousin. The midsize SUV has dimensions of 4,323mm x 1,796mm x 1,669mm and a wheelbase of 2,671mm. The 5-seater base variant has a boot space capacity of 511 litres. The C3 Aircross is offered in three variants – You, Plus, and Max. The Plus and Max variants are available in 5 and 7-seat configurations, but the You variant is limited to a seating capacity of 5 people.

This entry-level variant also misses out on features like the touchscreen infotainment system, speaker system, USB charging, roof-mounted AC vents, reverse camera, and rear wiper & defogger. However, the SUV gets safety features like two airbags, ABS, ESC, TPMS, hill-hold assist, and more as standard across all variants. The top-spec Max trim gets a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster. The Citroen C3 Aircross misses out on features like electric folding mirrors, cruise control, automatic climate control, wireless charging, ventilated front seat, keyless entry, push-button entry, and a sunroof. But, is also one of the most affordable SUVs in its segment.

Conclusion

Prices for the Citroen C3 Aircross start at Rs 9.99 lakh and go up to Rs 12.97 lakh. Expect the automatic variants to cost a small premium. The SUV rivals Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun, Honda Elevate, and Skoda Kushaq. The automaker will also be launching the C3X crossover sedan later this year. Unlike the C3 Aircross, its sedan crossover will be decked with features to appeal to the Indian market.
