BYD e6 facelift teased, expected to launch by Diwali

BYD India has dropped a teaser for its upcoming all-electric offering. The BYD e6 facelift will arrive in India by Diwali. The electric MPV was the automaker’s debut car in India. It was launched in November 2021 as a commercial vehicle. It was made available for private buyers in September 2022. The e6 facelift was showcased globally at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show in July 2024. It was subsequently launched in Indonesia as the M6. It remains to be seen whether BYD will change the MPV’s branding in India as well.

BYD e6 facelift: What to expect

The teaser image dropped by BYD India showcases the new LED headlamp and DLR design for the e6 facelift. The front bumper houses sleek air intake units and receives chrome accents. The front fascia of the facelift looks inspired by the Atto 3 SUV. In profile, the BYD e6 facelift is similar to its outgoing version. The only difference is the redesigned 17-inch alloy wheels. At the back, the electric MPV gets a new design for the LED tail lamps and chrome linings on the bumper.

BYD e6 facelift: What to expect

Inside, the upcoming BYD e6 facelift will rock a 12.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system which is notably larger than the 10.1-inch unit on the current model. The dashboard layout remains unchanged. There are two new wireless charging pads inside the MPV along with new switchgear and a new drive selector. The steering wheel design has also been altered. Other features include cruise control, automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, and more. The e6 model showcased in Indonesia was available with 6 and 7-seat configurations. The current India-spec e6 is only available with a 5-seat layout.

BYD e6 facelift: What to expect

The BYD e6 facelift sold in Indonesia is available in two battery pack options – 55.4kWh and 71.8kWh. The former offers a driving range of up to 420km while the latter goes up to 530km on a full charge. The variants with the smaller battery pack produce a maximum power output of 163hp and 310Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the larger battery pack variants put out 204hp and 310Nm. The current-gen model generates 95hp and 180Nm. The e6 model sold in India is available with a 71.8kWh battery pack only. BYD will likely stick with this battery pack on the facelifted model for India.

Conclusion

The current-gen BYD e6 is priced in India is priced at Rs 29.15 lakh. Expect the facelifted model to cost a significant premium. BYD will drop more teasers for the MPV as we get closer to launch. The battery and engine specs will be confirmed a few weeks before launch. The BYD e6 has no real rivals in India due to its unique pricing. MG ZS EV and MG Windsor are its closest competitors in the country.
