Citroen Basalt delivery rollout begins in India, ‘Max’ trim in most demand

Citroen India has started the first phase of the delivery rollout process for the recently launched Basalt crossover. Citroen Basalt was launched in India on August 7 at a starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh. On August 17, the automaker revealed the prices for all the variants of the crossover. The top-spec Max AT variant of the Basalt fetches Rs 13.62 lakh.

Citroen Basalt: Phase 1 deliveries are now live

As a part of its first phase of deliveries, Citroen India is shipping the Plus and Max variants of the Basalt to customers. 60% of the bookings so far have been for the Max variants. The entry-level You trim is the least popular among buyers. Citroen will start shipping it in October. All the variants have a waiting period of 1 month.

Citroen Basalt is available in two engine options. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 110hp and 190Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox (where it produces 205Nm of torque). On the C3 Aircross SUV, this engine offers a mileage of 18.5 kmpl. The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine puts out 82hp and 115Nm. This engine can only be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The NA engine is available on the You and Plus trims while the Turbo engine can be had with Plus and Max trims.

Talking about features, the Citroen Basalt gets a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, cruise control, wireless charging, contoured headrests, and additional storage underneath the centre console. Safety features include six airbags, ESC, TPMS, and a rear parking camera. One of the big misses on this crossover is a sunroof.

Conclusion

The introductory price offers for the Citroen Basalt will expire on October 31. The crossover can be booked for a token amount of Rs 11,001. The dual-tone variant is only available with the Max trim and costs an additional Rs 21,000. In India, the Basalt rivals the Tata Curvv ICE along with the existing midsize SUVs.
