  • The automatic variant of the SUV will demand a premium of Rs 1 lakh.
  • Deliveries for the new variant will begin next month.

Citroen India has finally added an automatic gearbox option for the C3 Aircross lineup. Buyers can now book their C3 Aircross Automatic model for a token amount of Rs 25,000. While the automaker has not revealed the pricing for the automatic variants yet, they are expected to cost a premium of Rs 1 lakh over their manual counterparts. Deliveries for the SUV will commence next month. The Citroen C3 Aircross was launched in September 2023 and has received an underwhelming response in the market, largely due to the lack of an automatic variant. The addition of an automatic gearbox will give the SUV a much-needed boost in sales.

Citroen C3 Aircross Automatic: What’s on offer?

The automatic transmission variant of the Citroen C3 Aircross makes use of a 6-speed torque converter gearbox. This is the same gearbox that features in the Indonesia-spec models of the SUV. It is sourced from Aisin, which happens to be a Japanese company. Powering the SUV is a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This engine produces a maximum power output of 110hp and 190Nm of torque.

The C3 Aircross SUV shares its underpinnings with its hatchback cousin. The CMP platform which does duty on the C3 hatchback is also present on the C3 Aircross. The midsize SUV stands at dimensions of 4,323mm x 1,796mm x 1,669mm and has a wheelbase of 2,671mm. The entry-level 5-seater variant of the SUV has a boot space capacity of 444 litres while the 7-seater variant offers 511 litres of cargo space with the third row folded flat. Citroen’s debut midsize SUV is offered in three variants – You, Plus, and Max. The Plus and Max variants are available in 5 and 7-seat configurations, but the You variant is limited to a seating capacity of 5 people.

Citroen C3 Aircross is one of the most affordable SUVs on the market right now, but it misses out on some premium features. Features like the touchscreen infotainment system, speaker system, USB charging, roof-mounted AC vents, reverse camera, and rear wiper & defogger are missing from the entry-level variant of the SUV. The top-spec Max trim gets a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster.

Compared to the other SUV in its segment, the C3 Aircross misses out on features like electric folding mirrors, cruise control, automatic climate control, wireless charging, ventilated front seat, keyless entry, push-button entry, and a sunroof. However, in terms of safety, it gets two airbags, ABS, ESC, TPMS, hill-hold assist, and more as standard across all variants.

Conclusion

Only the top two variants of the SUV will get the option of an automatic gearbox. The automaker will reveal the power/torque output and fuel economy numbers for the automatic variant in the coming days. Further along the year, Citroen will release its C3X crossover sedan which promises some high-end features compared to its SUV counterpart. Meanwhile, the Citroen C3 Aircross rivals the likes of Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun, Honda Elevate, and Skoda Kushaq.
