Bookings halted for Lexus LX 500d

Lexus India has stopped accepting bookings for the LX 500d. The Lexus LX 500d was launched in India back in December 2022 at a starting price of Rs 2.82 crore. It was the automaker’s only diesel offering in India. The SUV has been pulled down from Lexus’ official India website. The automaker says that the LX 500d will be ‘arriving soon’, hinting that an updated version of the SUV is on the way.

Lexus LX 500d: A look back at one of the finest Lexus SUVs

Lexus LX 500d was the most expensive offering from the automaker in India, sitting above the NX and RX. It was the sister model of the Toyota Land Cruiser LC300. The two SUVs shared the same underpinnings and structural design. The LX 500d separated itself from the LC300 by its signature chrome grille, unique LED headlights, fog lamps, and air vents. At the back, the SUV featured a fresh design for the LED tail lamps. These tail lamps were connected by a light bar.

Inside, the Lexus LX 500d featured a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a supplementary 7.0-inch touchscreen display for the off-road data and climate control functions. The rear seats were equipped with two 11.6-inch touchscreen entertainment systems. There were 4 interior colour options – tan, red, black, and a white and brown combo. Overseas, the Lexus LX500d is available in 5-seat and 7-seat configurations, but only the 5-seat variant was made available in India.

Under the hood, the Lexus LX500d was powered by a 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel engine that generated a maximum power of 305hp and 700Nm of torque. This engine was mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 is powered by the same engine. The LX 500d was packed with multi-terrain off-roading modes.

Conclusion

As we mentioned earlier, the Lexus LX 500d will be re-introduced with updated features and powertrain. The new version of the SUV could come with a hybrid engine. It will likely demand a premium over the outgoing model. LX 500d’s Toyota counterpart, LC300, is currently on sale in India. It is priced at Rs 2.10 crore. Upon its re-launch, the LX 500d will rival the Toyota Land Cruiser LC300, Range Rover, BMW XM and Mercedes-Maybach GLS.
