BMW X5 and X6 facelifts revealed, India launch by December

BMW has updated two of its SUVs, the BMW X5 and X6, and revealed their facelifted versions ahead of their debut at Amelia Concours d’Elegance in Florida next month. The two SUVs receive updates across the board as they are set to rival the updated Mercedes-Benz GLE and GLE coupe facelifts.

BMW X5 and X6 facelifts: What’s new?

While the basic exterior look of the two SUVs remains the same, BMW has made a few subtle cosmetic changes to the X5 and X6. Up front, the BMW X5 and X6 facelifts receive an illuminated grille, new kidney grille borders, and an updated lower fascia. BMW also claims that the headlights on the two facelifts are now 35mm narrower.

Inside, the BMW X5 and X6 facelifts are more in tune with the X7. The dashboard design has been slightly tweaked and it now hosts a new curved digital display. This curved digital display is made out of a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch instrument display. This unit has been updated with the latest BMW iDrive 8.0 OS. The SUVs are now equipped with the BMW Live Cockpit Plus System, a head-up display with AR, a panoramic glass sunroof illuminated by LEDs, and a B&W sound system.

The changes aren’t just limited to cosmetics and design, as the BMW X5 and X6 powertrains have been revised as well. The updated powertrains now put out enhanced performance numbers. The 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit now produces a maximum power output of 380hp and 520Nm peak torque, improving by 47hp and 70Nm. This engine is found on the X5 xDrive50i and X6 xDrive40i. The diesel unit produces 298hp and 670Nm. The diesel unit powers the X5 xDrive30d and X6 xDrive30d variants. These changes have been made possible due to changes in the combustion process, valve control, and ignition system.

The 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six engine now comes paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. The electric motor puts out 12hp and 199Nm by itself. The mild hybrid variants put out 375hp and 519Nm.  The BMW X5 and X6 also receive Highway Assistant, Assisted View, and Parking Assistant Professional technology.
