Audi has added a new hybrid variant to the A5 lineup. The Audi A5 was revealed globally in July 2024. At the time of its debut, the A5 was available in petrol and diesel powertrains. The new hybrid variant carries the ‘e-hybrid’ suffix. It is available in Sedan and Avant body styles.

The Audi A5 e-hybrid is powered by a 2-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces a maximum power output of 252hp. This engine is linked to an electric motor that produces 142hp. The e-hybrid model is available in 2 power levels – 300hp, 450Nm and 367hp, 500Nm. The hybrid engine setup is linked to a 7-speed automatic gearbox. The power generated from the engines is channeled to all four wheels.

The Audi A5 e-hybrid uses a 25.9kWh battery pack for its electric motor. This battery pack can power the car for 110km in electric-only mode. It supports 11kW charging. A home charger can fully charge the battery pack in 2.5 hours. The car can be driven in hybrid and electric modes.

The sporty variant of the Audi A5 e-hybrid with the higher power output gets an S line exterior package, a black styling package, and privacy glazing. This gives the car a more dynamic look. Other than these additions, the hybrid model is cosmetically identical to the petrol and diesel variants.

Inside, the Audi A5 e-hybrid gets a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an 11.9-inch digital driver’s display. Other features include a 3-zone automatic air conditioning system, an auxiliary air conditioning system, seat heating, seat ventilation, steering wheel heating, a remote-control key, connected car tech, and more.

Gernot Döllner, Audi CEO, said, “As part of our model initiative, we are significantly expanding our range of plug-in hybrids in 2025. Outputting up to 270 kilowatts, our new generation of plug-in hybrid models offers a sporty and comfortable driving experience as well as a harmonious balance between performance and efficiency.” Geoffrey Bouquot, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at AUDI AG, adds: “The increased electric range of our new plug-in hybrids enables our customers to cover the majority of their daily journeys using only electric power. Our hybrid technology combines the best of both worlds and provides a high degree of flexibility for everyday life. And with the new technology designation ‘e-hybrid,’ this is now also recognizable at first glance.”

Final Thoughts

Bookings for the Audi A5 e-hybrid will begin from March 27 onwards in Europe. Its prices start at € 62,500 (~ Rs 57.75 lakh) and go up to € 72,550 (~ Rs 67.04 lakh). It remains to be seen whether Audi will bring the sedan to India. The Audi A5 rivals the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes Benz C Class, and Lexus RC.
