2023 Hyundai Verna: What the new teaser suggests

The new diamond-cut alloy wheel design on the 2023 Hyundai Verna looks consistent with the sketches and teasers that the automaker had revealed earlier. The new driver’s display looks similar to the new generation of Hyundai cars. The Verna will rest on a wheelbase of 2,670mm and will be 1,765mm wide. This makes the new Verna 36mm wider than the outgoing model, with a 70mm longer wheelbase. The bootspace capacity on the new Verna is 528 litres. Buyers can also expect an ADAS package on the sedan.

Earlier, the automaker had revealed the exterior design profile of the new sedan. Up front, the 2023 Hyundai Verna gets a wider grille than its predecessor. It stretches across the width of the sedan and has a design pattern which is similar to the one found on Hyundai Tucson. The Verna also gets a split headlamp setup along with a sleek light bar that runs across the edge of the bonnet. The bonnet also features pronounced lines running across its length.

Along the sides, the new Verna features some heavy muscular lines that run across the doors and merge into the wheel arches. At the rear, the tail lamps have been redesigned and are connected by an LED light bar.

The 2023 Hyundai Verna will come in two engine options – 1.5-litre MPi Petrol and 1.5-litre Turbo GDi Petrol. The latter produces a maximum power output of 160hp and can be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DCT. This engine is currently found on Creta, Seltos, and Carens.

The 1.5-litre MPi Petrol engine puts out 115hp and can be mated to a 6-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. The new Hyundai Verna will be made available in four trims – EX, S, SX, and SX(O). The MPi engine will feature on entry-level trims while the higher trims will get the turbo petrol engine. Both engines are compliant with the upcoming BS6 Phase II norms.

Conclusion

Bookings for the 2023 Hyundai Verna are currently open at a token amount of Rs 25,000. Hyundai will reveal the prices for the Verna upon launch on March 21. We expect the sedan to be priced at least Rs 1 lakh higher than its predecessor. Upon launch, the new Verna will rival the likes of Volkswagen Virtus, Skoda Slavia, Honda City, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
