Automakers like Hyundai, MG Motor, and BYD make an appearance in this price range. Mahindra also plans to compete in this segment from next year, with its BE series currently in the works. Hyundai Ioniq 5

Price: Rs 45.95 lakh

Hyundai Ioniq 5 is one of the best EVs under Rs 50 lakh in India. The electric car was launched at AutoExpo 2023, back in January. The Ioniq 5 is Hyundai’s second electric offering in India, following the Kona EV. In India, the Ioniq 5 is available in a single 72.6kWh battery pack variant. This battery pack can power the EV up to 631km on a single charge. The electric motor on the Ioniq 5 generates a maximum power output of 217hp and 350Nm of torque. With 200V superfast charging, the battery pack can be juiced from 10% to 80% in just under 20 minutes.

BYD Atto 3

Price: Rs 33.99 lakh

Chinese manufacturer BYD’s second electric offering in India, the Atto 3, was launched in India last year. It remains one of the best EVs under Rs 50 lakh in the country. The EV gets sleek LED headlights and DRLs up front and an SUV-like shoulder line along the sides. It stands at dimensions of 4,445mm x 1,875mm x 1,615mm. The Atto 3 gets a 60.48kWh battery pack that delivers a driving range of 521km. The electric motor on this electric SUV puts out 200hp and 310Nm of peak power and torque. With 80W DC fast charging the battery pack on the Atto 3 can be charged from 0% to 80% in 50 minutes.

MG ZS EV

Price: Rs 23.38 lakh

MG ZS EV was facelifted in 2022 and got a new ADAS variant in July 2023. It is one of the best EVs under Rs 50 lakh in India. The electric offering from MG Motors gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch driver’s display, and wireless charging. The front-mounted electric motor produces a maximum power output of 176hp and 280Nm on the ZS EV. The 50.3kWh battery pack offers a driving range of 461km. The EV can go from 0-100kmph in 8.5 seconds.

Hyundai Kona EV

Price: Rs 23.84 lakh

Hyundai’s first electric offering in India, the Kona EV, is priced at Rs 23.84 lakh in India. The EV is often available with significant discounts at certain months. Hyundai Kona EV is equipped with a 39kWh battery pack that offers a driving range of 452km. The electric motor on the crossover EV can generate a maximum power output of 136hp and 395Nm of torque.

Tata Nexon.ev

Price: Rs 14.74 lakh

Tata Motors boasts one of the largest EV portfolios in India, with affordable electric options across different categories. The newly facelifted Tata Nexon.ev is one of the best EVs under Rs 50 lakh in India. Tata Motors has renamed the Prime and Max variants of the Nexon EV to MR (Mid Range) and LR (Long Range). The former gets a 30kWh battery pack that delivers a driving range of 325km. The 40.5kWh battery pack on the LR variant promises a range of 465km. The Nexon.ev MR puts out 129hp and 215Nm, while the LR variant produces 145hp and 215Nm.

Honorable Mention: Volvo XC40 Recharge

Price: Rs 56.90 lakh

While it may not be priced under Rs 50 lakh, the Volvo XC40 Recharge is one of the best EVs in India around that price range. It retains the looks and design of its ICE sibling but comes with a 78kWh battery pack. This battery pack can deliver a driving range of 418km on a single charge. The electric SUV can produce a maximum power output of 408hp and 660Nm of torque. With 150kW DC fast charging, the SUV can be charged from 10% to 80% in 33 minutes.
