Yamaha XSR155 launched in India

The new Yamaha XSR155 has finally been launched in India. It is priced at Rs 1.50 lakh. The retro motorbike is powered by the same engine as the Yamaha R15 and MT15. The key changes on the XSR155 lie on the cosmetics and styling fronts. It undercuts the MT15 by Rs 5,000. It is available in a single variant. Alongside the XSR155, India Yamaha Motor (IYM) has also launched the FZ-RAVE motorbike and the AEROX-E and EC-06 electric scooters.

The XSR155 follows Yamaha’s philosophy of combining modern retro design with innovative tech and sport aesthetics. It features a classic round LED headlight and tail light, a 10-litre teardrop fuel tank, and a traditional LCD panel that embodies Yamaha’s iconic design language. The motorbike borrows the lightweight and well-balanced ‘Deltabox’ frame from the MT15 and R15. The 17-inch wheels lend it an agile stance. The XSR55 comes in 4 paint shades – Metallic Grey, Vivid Red, Greyish Green Metallic, and Metallic Blue. There are 2 accessory packs on offer – Scrambler and Café Racer.

The XSR155 is powered by the same engine as the Yamaha R15 and MT15. This 155cc liquid-cooled, 4-valve engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) generates a maximum power output of 18.4hp at 10,000rpm and 14.1Nm torque at 7,500rpm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The motorbike features upside-down front forks and linked-type monocross rear suspension. There’s dual-channel ABS and Traction Control on board for safer rides.

Final Thoughts

Bookings for the XSR155 are now open. As mentioned earlier, it undercuts the MT15 by Rs 5,000. However, its sportier counterpart, the Yamaha R15, is priced at Rs 1.70 lakh. The XSR155 rivals the Royal Enfield Hunter 350, TVS Ronin, and Honda CB350RS in India.
