Ather Energy hits 1,000 charging stations milestone

Ather Energy has announced that it has installed over 1,000 fast-charging locations, also known as Ather Grids, across 80 cities in India. The EV manufacturer has been on the ascendancy in India, delivering 12,419 units in January 2023 alone. The company made its debut in 2018 with the launch of Ather 450. This was followed by Ather 450X in 2020 and 450X Gen 3 in 2022.

Ather Energy plans on installing 2,500+ charging stations by the end of 2023

Ather Energy also announced that it is looking to invest further in charging infrastructure, with plans to expand its grid network to 2,500+ charging stations by the end of the year. 60% of the installations have been carried out in Tier 2 and Tier 3, showcasing the penetrative growth. The grids have been strategically located so users can easily plan rides across different cities.

Ather has also released its IP for the charging connector to all OEMs, hoping for an interoperable charging platform. Hero MotoCorp, being one of the stakeholders in Ather, has incorporated the connector in its electric offering, Vida V1. This will allow Vida V1 riders to make use of Ather’s charging stations.

Ather scooter owners can use the Ather Grid app to locate charging stations near them. Until March 2023, the fast-charging facilities can be used free of cost. Ather EV owners can charge their vehicles up to 80% at 1.5km/min. Ather also announced ‘Neighbourhood charging’ which allows users access to fast charging in public areas including tech parks, corporate buildings, and residential complexes.

Commenting on the milestone, Ravneet Phokela, Chief Business Officer, Ather Energy, said “A robust charging infrastructure is one of the major drivers in accelerating faster adoption of electric vehicles. As a brand focused on building a vibrant EV ecosystem, we have made strong investments in building what is already India’s largest public fast-charging network. We are accelerating our scale up, and also adding Neighbourhood Charging – a charging solution focused on semi-private spaces such as apartment blocks, office, tech-parks etc. We stay committed to investing strategically in the space and supporting the growth of the industry.”
