Engine

Both the Ray ZR and Street Rally hybrid scooters are powered by a 125cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 8 BHP of maximum power at 6,500 rpm and peak torque of 10.3 Nm at 5,000 rpm. The scooters come with a Smart Motor Generator (SMG), it basically is an electric motor that functions as a hybrid engine to provide a power boost under acceleration.

The instrument cluster is paired with an indicator light that notifies the rider when the Power Assist function is active. When the throttle is cut back or the engine rpm exceeds the prescribed level the Power Assist function is cancelled.

It’s exciting to see that even Yamaha is stepping its game up to enter the electric vehicle market. With these hybrid motors, we can see a start of fully electric vehicles from Yamaha as well. Recently the company also announced that it has been working on a new electric vehicle platform.
