Yamaha R15 is one of the most popular entry-level motorbikes in India. The bike puts out great performance with an affordable price tag. Today at the launch event Yamaha launched its most awaited R15 V4 along with R15M. The new V4 will start from Rs 1,67,800 and the R15M is priced at Rs 1,77,800 ex-showroom.

Motofumi Shitara, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India said, “The YZF-R15 V4 carries the same racing DNA as the YZR-M1 & YZF-R1. The R15 V4 will provide Indian customers with all the latest technology that Yamaha has gained from conducting multiple racing activities. I believe that the all-new YZF-R15 V4 and the YZF-R15M will take the thrills of racing to a whole new level & provide a greater experience to our R15 fans in India. Design

The bike is heavily inspired by its elder sibling R7. The new horizontal line gives the bike a sporty and visually appealing look. The front panel holds the bifunctional Class-D LED headlight between the M shaped air intake. For suspension, the company has used 37mm upside-down forks for the front and a single mono-shock in the end to increase comfort.

This new structure of the R15 V4 offers more stability under braking, with improved comfort and cornering performance. On the other hand, the R15M gets some cosmetic changes as well along with the different colours scheme. The bike gets carbon-like seat covers, m series logo on the pillion seat, blue front fork caps and golden brake callipers.

Features

The newest update of the traction control system makes it the first small-displacement Yamaha motorcycle with manual transmission to feature this. This controls the ignition timing and fuel injection volume to adjust engine power avoiding the bike from slipping away. The bike is also equipped with a quick shifter for smooth clutchless upshifts. Both the R15 have a new LCD cluster inspired by the company’s top of the line R1 with gear shift indicators and street/track modes.

Along with these are the A&S clutch, thermostat cooling system, 3-stage expansion muffler chamber, delta box frame, and dual-channel ABS. The company also finally introduced Bluetooth connectivity. The Instrument cluster has dedicated lights for messages and calls. Unfortunately, it’s not like a smart display that we can find on other competitor bikes.

Engine

The 2021 Yamaha R15 V4 is powered by a 155cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, SOHC, 4-valve engine that produces a maximum power of 18.4bhp @10,000rpm, with a torque output of 14.2Nm @7,500rpm, the engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

R15 V4 comes in three colours: Racing Blue, Dark Knight, and Metallic Red. However, the new Yamaha R15M will be available only in Metallic Grey. The online bookings for the R15 V4 and the new R15M start from today. The company will soon release a MotoGP edition of the bike as well.
