Yamaha Aerox 155 maxi-scooter launched in India at Rs 1,29,000

After so many teasers and leaks, Yamaha Aerox 155 maxi-scooter launched in India. The Aerox is priced at Rs 1,29,000 ex-showroom, India. During the launch Motofumi Shitara, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India said, “The Aerox 155 is an important addition to this line-up as it has been developed on the lines of Yamaha’s R DNA”. 

He also added that “The Aerox 155 will provide a new and exciting riding experience with high performance, comfort & convenience to Indian customers. I am confident that the Aerox 155 will be well accepted by our customers and it will create a new Maxi Sports Scooter segment in India.”  Let us see the features of this new maxi scooter.

Design

The new Yamaha Aerox 155 is designed based on the “Heart-Shaking Speedster” design concept. The scooter features LED headlights in the front with daytime running DRLs. The rear has 12 compact LEDs for the taillight that gives it a 3D appearance. The design language is similar to its geared sibling R15. In the front is the 26mm telescopic suspension to retain good handling capacity. 

The rear suspension duty is done by dual pitch springs whose angles have been increased for better pillon seating. The maxi style scooter sits on 14-inch wheels with tubeless tyres of 110mm at the front, and 140mm at the rear. With great engine power, the company also fitted the scooter with a 230mm disc brake at the front with ABS giving it a good stopping power. The Aerox 155 is ideal for Indian roads as the ground clearance stands 145mm off the ground.

Features

The Aerox gets a 5.8-inch LCD screen with a Multi-Information Display that can be controlled by a handlebar switch. The screen shows the speed, RPM, VVA indication and Y-Connect App Phone notifications. Inside the application, users can keep a track of maintenance recommendations, last parked location, fuel consumption, malfunction notification, revs dashboard, and ranking.

The Yamaha Aerox 155, contains a charging socket with a port at the bottom for the charging cable to pass through easily. Under-seat capacity is 24.5 litres in offering to fit in a full-face helmet easily. The 5.5-litre fuel tank is placed in between and can be refuelled with an external fuel lid.

Engine

The Yamaha Aerox 155 is powered by a 155cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 4-valve motor equipped with VVA that develops 15bhp @8,000rpm with 13.9Nm of peak torque produced @6,500rpm, mated to a CVT transmission. It is the same detuned version of the engine which is used in its sibling R15 and MT15. The piston head along with the combustion chamber has been tuned for boosting its efficiency. The Aerox 155 also gets a smart motor-generator system for idle engine starts, whereas the stop & start system boosts fuel efficiency.  

The Aerox 155 will be available to the Yamaha dealership later this month. It will be available in 3 paint schemes Racing Blue, Grey Vermillion. In addition a Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Edition as well.
