Hyundai Creta vs MG Astor: Which SUV to buy?

Hyundai Creta always had great sales figures in the Indian market and with the people following the trend of buying a compact SUV, MG has Introduced its Astor compact SUV as well. MG showcased this car recently and it will be launching soon. Now the big question is Hyundai Creta vs MG Astor, Which SUV to buy? Here is a quick comparison for you to decide.

Exterior

In dimensions both the cars are big and give a lot of headroom and leg space for everyone. Though the MG Astor is a little bigger with a length being 4,323 mm and a width of 1,809 mm as compared to Creta’s 4,300mm and 1,790 mm respectively. The wheelbase is something in which Creta is ahead of Astor. Creta has a 2,610 mm wheelbase that is 30 mm longer than Astor and translates into a roomier second-row seating.

Creta gets a distinctive reverse C shaped LED DRLs with LED headlight and taillight. Astor has a prominent bold grille that holds a 3D looking MG logo giving it a solid road presence. It has a 9 crystal diamond partition for LED headlamps giving the car an aggressive look.

Interior and Features

Creta gets class-leading features like Wireless Charging for smartphones, Rear Center Armrest with Cupholders, Voice-Enabled Smart Panoramic Sunroof, Cooled Glovebox, Rear Window Sunshade, Soothing Blue Ambient Lighting, 17.78 cm Supervision Cluster with Digital Display, Front row Ventilation seats, Rear USB charger, 20.03cm HD touch screen with features like Apple Carplay, Android Auto and Blue Link 1.5.

On the other hand, the expected features on MG Astor are far superior to that of Creta. It has an Advance drive assistance system (ADAS), Autonomous Level 2 features, 6-way power-adjustable driver seats, electric parking brake, PM 2.5 filter, panoramic sky roof, rear AC vent, front and rear armrest, heated ORVM, rain-sensing wiper, 10.1-inch HD infotainment system for the cinematic experience and full digital cluster with 7-inch embedded LCD screen. The infotainment system has i-Smart technology with paid subscription service as well.

Engine

The standard petrol motor in Creta is a 1.5-litre producing 112bhp along with 144 Nm of torque and can be paired with a CVT or a six-speed manual. The more exciting petrol motor is a 1.4-litre Turbo GDi unit producing 138bhp of max power along with 242 Nm of peak torque and is only being offered with a seven-speed DCT transmission. The only diesel variant on offer is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit producing 113bhp with 250Nm torque and can be bought with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.

On the other side, MG Astor has only a petrol variant with 2 options to select from. The first one is a base model with a 1.5-litre VTi motor producing 118bhp and 150 Nm of torque. The second one is a superior 1.3-litre turbo-petrol motor. The former is capable of producing 161 bhp and 230 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a five-speed manual unit and a six-speed automatic unit for both engines.

Pricing

The price of the Petrol variant for Creta ranges between Rs 10.16 Lakh – Rs 17.87 Lakh ex-showroom and the price of the Diesel version from Rs 10.62 Lakh – Rs 17.77 Lakh ex-showroom. On the other hand, the price of MG Astor is still under wraps by the company, but it is expected to start from Rs 10 Lakhs and will go all the way up to Rs 17 Lakh for the highest trim.
