MG Astor’s 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine discontinued in India

MG Motor India has pulled the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Astor SUV’s lineup. This engine was only available with the top-spec Savvy Pro variant of MG Astor. As things stand, the SUV is only available with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The automaker has also added some new features to the entry-level variants of the Astor and hiked the prices of some trims.

Here is the updated price list for the 2025 MG Astor.

The starting price of the MG Astor SUV remains unchanged at Rs 9.99 lakh. However, the top-spec Savvy Pro variant is now dearer by up to Rs 24,000.

2024 MG Astor: What’s new?

The entry-level Sprint and Shine variants of MG Astor are now available with a panoramic sunroof and a six-speaker sound system. MG Motor has also added six airbags and ivory leatherette seating on the Select variant. Other features include an iSmart 2.0 infotainment system with over 80 connected features, a Jio-powered voice recognition system, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, an anti-theft alert, and a digital key functionality. In terms of safety, the SUVmg gets a Level 2 ADAS package.

MG Astor updated price list

The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 110hp and 144Nm of torque. It can be paired with a 5-speed manual or an 8-speed CVT gearbox. The now-discontinued 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine used to put out a maximum power output of 140hp and 220Nm of torque. This engine was mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

2024 MG Astor: What’s new?

MG Astor is also offered in a ‘Blackstorm’ edition which features an all-black theme for the interior. There are splashes of red highlights on the upholstery, AC vents, steering, and door trims. This special edition is only available for the mid-spec trims and comes with the 1.5-litre NA petrol engine. It gets the standard 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and the 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster.

With a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh, MG Astor is one of the most affordable midsize SUVs in India. It rivals the likes of Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, and Citroen C3 Aircross.
