Kia India has brought the automatic transmission to lower variants of the Sonet SUV. Priced at Rs 9.78 lakh, ‘HTE (O)’ becomes the new entry-level diesel automatic trim of the Kia Sonet. Meanwhile, the entry-level turbo-petrol automatic, ‘HTK (O)’, is priced at Rs 9.90 lakh. The automaker has also added a new ‘Magma Red’ paint shade for the compact SUV.

Previously, only the HTX and GTX+ variants were available with a diesel automatic powertrain. Meanwhile, the turbo-petrol automatic powertrain has been extended to the X-Line variant, apart from the HTX and GTX+ trims.
Apart from the addition of the Magma Red colour scheme, no changes have been made to the exterior of the Kia Sonet. The SUV’s front fascia is highlighted by sharp LED headlamps with eyebrow LED DRLs extending to the sides. The front grille and skid plate give the SUV a bold and fierce look. Along the sides, the Sonet rests on 16-inch alloy wheels. At the back, the LED tail lamps are connected by a sleek light bar.
Inside, the Kia Sonet flaunts a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Accompanying this display is another 10.25-inch screen for the digital instrument cluster. Other features include a Bose audio system, a sunroof, a 360-degree camera, and more. On the safety front, the compact SUV packs six airbags, TPMS, ESC, hill-start assist, and more standard features. It also gets a Level 1 ADAS package with functions like lane keep assist, high beam assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and more.
The Sonet is offered in 3 engine options. The 1.2-litre petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 83hp and 115Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine on the Sonet puts out 120hp and 172Nm. It can be paired with an iMT or DCT gearbox. Lastly, the 1.5-litre diesel engine generates a maximum power output of 116hp and 250Nm of torque. This diesel engine can be paired with a manual or automatic gearbox.

Final Thoughts
Prices for the Sonet range start at Rs 8.34 lakh and go up to Rs 16.37 lakh. Introduced in 2020, the SUV has sold over 5 lakh units in India so far. It rivals the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Nissan Magnite, Tata Nexon, and Renault Kiger in India.
