Yamaha EC-06 launched in India at Rs 1.68 lakh

India Yamaha Motor has launched its first electric scooter in the country. The Yamaha EC-06 is priced at Rs 1.68 lakh. As of now, the electric scooter is only available in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. It will be introduced in more states in the coming months. The EC-06 is based on River Indie, as Yamaha has worked in close collaboration with the Bengaluru-based tech outfit.

The EC-06’s design is a fusion of classic Yamaha DNA with contemporary aesthetics. Compared to its River counterpart, the EC-06 is sleeker and more traditional-looking. It doesn’t go all out on the boxiness like the Indie. Its headlamp and taillamp have a different design as well.

The Yamaha EC-06 uses the same IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) as the River Indie. This electric motor is paired with a 4kWh fixed battery. It generates a maximum power output of 9kW and 26Nm of torque – same as Indie. However, its top speed is capped at 79 km/h, which is 11km/h lower than its River counterpart.

Yamaha’s debut electric scooter in India can go up to 169km on a single full charge. It can be charged from 0-80% in 8 hours using a home charger. The battery is rated IP67 for dust and water resistance, while the other electronic parts carry an IP65 rating. There are 3 drive modes on offer – Eco, Standard, and Power.

The EC-06 has a colour LCD panel that displays real-time information on speed, battery status, riding modes, and connectivity features. The Yamaha Motor Connect R app enables real-time data access and smart features. The under-seat storage has a 24.5-litre capacity, which is ideal for storing helmets, bags, or daily essentials.

Final Thoughts

Yamaha is offering a standard 3-year/30,000km warranty on the EC-06’s battery pack. The electric scooter is Rs 22,000 more expensive than its River sibling. Apart from the River Indie, it rivals the Ather 450XOla S1 Pro, and Hero Vida V1.
