Tata Motors has launched the Sierra SUV in India at a starting price of Rs 11.49 lakh. Tata Sierra comes in 7 trim levels – Smart+, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Adventure+, Accomplished, and Accomplished+. The prices for the rest of the variants will be revealed later. Tata will begin accepting bookings for the SUV on December 16. The delivery rollout will commence on January 15.

Tata Sierra: Everything you need to know
The Tata Sierra is available in 3 engine options. Tata’s new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, TGDI ‘Hyperion’ petrol engine makes its debut on the SUV. It is available only with the top three trims. It produces a maximum power output of 158hp @ 5,000rpm and 255Nm torque @ 1,750-4,000rpm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated ‘Revotron’ petrol engine is available with all trims except the top-spec Accomplished+. It generates a maximum power output of 105hp @ 6,000rpm and 145Nm torque @ 2,100rpm. This engine can be mated to a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.
Lastly, the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, ‘Kryojet’ diesel engine is available with all seven trims of the SUV. It generates a maximum power output of 116hp @ 4,000rpm. With a 6-speed manual transmission, it produces 260Nm torque @ 1,500-2,750rpm. This output increases to 280Nm when the engine is linked to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The Sierra stands at dimensions of 4,340mm x 1,841mm x 1,715mm and has a 2,730mm boot space. It is underpinned by Tata’s new All-Terrain Ready, Omni-Energy, and Geometry Scalable (ARGOS) platform. The SUV takes design inspiration from its ‘90s predecessor, especially when it comes to the B-pillar silhouette and the rear glass section. While the new Sierra does not have a legitimate wraparound rear glass like its ‘91 counterpart, it manages to create that effect using black shades. The flush-sitting door handles and the panoramic sunroof bring a splash of modernity to the design.
Up front, the Sierra flaunts a clean and minimal look. The highlight is the Light Saber LED DRLs with their sleek and sculpted look. These DRLs are equipped with welcome and goodbye animations. The LED headlamps are stacked vertically. The tail lamps mimic the look of the LED DRLs up front. The SUV rests on 19-inch alloy wheels. There are a total of 6 colour options on offer: Coorg Clouds, Pristine White, Pure Grey, Andaman Adventure, Munnar Mist, and Bengal Rouge.
Inside, the Tata Sierra rocks an incredible triple-screen setup on the dashboard. This includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen infotainment system, and another 12.3-inch display for the passenger. This setup supports wireless headphones, wireless Android Auto, and wireless Apple CarPlay. The 12-speaker JBL sound system comes with a soundbar mounted on the dashboard along with Dolby Atmos support. Other features include dual-zone air conditioning, ventilated front seats, a 6-way powered driver’s seat with memory, thigh support extender, ambient lighting, a head-up display, an air purifier with AQI display, an illuminated cooled glovebox, wireless charging, and more.
The 622-litre boot space capacity of the Sierra can be expanded to 1,275 litres by collapsing the rear row seats. Passengers have 973mm legroom and 1,004mm headroom at their disposal. On the safety front, the SUV gets 6 airbags and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with 20 features as standard. Other safety features include Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Hold, rear occupant sensor, perimetric alarm sensor, a 360-degree Surround View System, and a Level 2 ADAS package. This ADAS package consists of 22 features, including Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist.

Final Thoughts
As mentioned earlier, prices for all the variants of the Sierra will be revealed in the coming days. An all-electric version of the SUV is also in the works. It will likely be launched in late December or early January. Meanwhile, the ICE version locks horns with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, MG Hector, and more.
