Tata Altroz Racer: First teaser revealed

The teaser image revealed by Tata Motors shows the latter half of the Altroz Racer’s profile. It confirms the dual-tone colour scheme on the production model. Along with the roof, the C pillars and OVRMs will also be finished in black. Other cosmetic changes on the new Altroz include racing stripes on the roof and bonnet along with special ‘Racer’ badging on the front fenders.

Inside, the Tata Altroz Racer will carry a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster with a MID unit. The hatchback also gets features like ventilated front seats, wireless charging, an air purifier, and an electric sunroof. This sunroof is voice-activated. Safety features on the hatchback include six airbags and ESC as standard, and a 360-degree camera.

The Tata Altroz Racer gets a mechanical upgrade as well. It is powered by the 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, which is also found on the Altroz iTurbo. On the Altroz Racer, it produces a maximum power output of 120hp and 170Nm of torque, which is 10hp and 30Nm higher than the Altroz iTurbo. This engine can be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. It remains to be seen whether Tata Motors will offer an automatic gearbox on the Altroz Racer.

Tata Altroz is currently priced between Rs 6.65 lakh – Rs 8.50 lakh. The Altroz iTurbo lineup starts at Rs 9.20 lakh. Expect the Altroz Racer to demand a premium over the iTurbo. Upon launch, the hatchback will rival the likes of the Hyundai i20 N Line, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
