Nissan Tekton spotted testing ahead of July 9 launch

Nissan Tekton is set to go on sale in India on July 9. The automaker has been conducting final road tests on the midsize SUV ahead of launch. The test mule was draped in a blue covering to hide its significant cosmetic highlights. The Tekton is a rebadged version of the Renault Duster. It will be Nissan’s first offering in the midsize SUV segment after Kicks, which was discontinued in April 2023.

Nissan Tekton: Everything we know so far

Nissan Tekton has a different visual appeal than its Renault counterpart. Its sleek LED headlamps are integrated with LED DRLs, which are connected by a light bar running across the grille. Unlike the Duster, the Tekton does not have any lettering on the grille. Instead, it uses the bonnet for its branding. The front bumper houses a chrome frame, which gives it a dual-tone look. The similarities between the two SUVs are more palpable along the sides, as they have the same profile and boxy stance. The wheel arches are flared, and the door handles are integrated into the window. At the back, a sleek light bar connects the LED taillamps.

The spy shots don’t reveal any new details about the interior of the Tekton. We expect it to borrow the dashboard and cabin layout of the Duster. The two SUVs will share the same feature set. This means the Nissan Tekton will get a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, and more features.

When it comes to safety, the Nissan Tekton will rock 6 airbags, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and more features. Higher variants of the SUV will get a Level 2 ADAS suite. The Renault Duster was awarded a 5-star safety rating by the Bharat NCAP in April. The Tekton will receive a similar rating.

Nothing separates the two SUVs under the hood either. The Tekton will come in 2 engine options. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine will generate a maximum power output of 100hp and 160Nm of torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine will produce 163hp and 280Nm. Buyers will get the option to link it to a 6-speed manual or DCT gearbox.

Final Thoughts

The Renault Duster is priced between Rs 10.49 lakh and Rs 20.09 lakh. We expect the Tekton to be priced similarly. It will likely get some introductory offers as well. Upon launch, it will rival the Renault DusterTata SierraMaruti Suzuki Grand VitaraToyota Urban Cruiser HyRyderKia SeltosVolkswagen TaigunHyundai CretaSkoda Kushaq, and Honda Elevate in India.
