The Tata Safari EV is set to launch in India this festive season. The electric SUV was recently spotted on a road test for the first time. The test mule, spotted in Pune, was completely draped in camouflage, with minimal cutouts for the lighting modules. Since it is an ICE-to-EV conversion, the Safari EV will share a lot of cosmetic similarities with its ICE sibling.

Tata Safari EV: What do the spy shots suggest?

The Safari EV will be underpinned by Tata’s Acti.ev+ platform. The recently spotted spy shot confirms an identical profile to the ICE Safari. The two SUVs will have the same dimensions as well. The test mule has a side step, which is something that isn’t present on the ICE model. We also expect some minor distinguishing features along the front and back. The spy shots also reveal a multi-link suspension setup, which is similar to that of the Harrier EV, which is also based on the Acti.ev+ platform.

The similarities with the ICE model will continue inside the Tata Safari EV too. It may get a new colour theme, but the dashboard and cabin layout will remain unchanged. Tata will equip the EV with TiDAL – Tata Intelligent Digital Architecture Layer. This will enable features like UPI payments, OTA updates, surround view, Park Assist (PA), Summon Mode, and more. More details are awaited as we get closer to launch.

We expect the Safari EV to be loaded with features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 6-way powered driver seat with memory, 4-way powered co-driver seats, front ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, JBL Black 10-speaker audio system, voice-assisted dual-zone fully automatic temperature control, ambient lighting, rear-row comfort headrests, rear window sunshades, and more.

The all-electric Safari will share its powertrain and battery with the Harrier EV. The latter comes in 2 battery pack sizes – 65kWh and 75kWh. They can go up to 538km and 622km on a full charge, respectively. Admittedly, the Safari EV will have a lower driving range due to a heavier body. The Harrier EV is available in RWD and AWD configurations. The single-electric-motor-powered RWD variants generate a maximum power output of 238hp and 315Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the AWD variants, powered by a dual electric motor setup, put out 354hp and 504Nm.

Final Thoughts

As mentioned earlier, Tata is eyeing a festive launch for the Safari EV. We expect it to be priced around Rs 25 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival the likes of the Mahindra XEV 9S, BYD Atto 3, and VinFast VF 7.
