Nissan Tekton to make its debut in India on July 9

Nissan will take the wraps off its upcoming midsize SUV on July 9. Nissan Tekton’s global debut will take place on July 9 in Mumbai, India. Based on the Renault Duster, the Tekton will be Nissan’s first entry in the cutthroat midsize SUV segment after the now-discontinued Kicks.

Nissan Tekton: What to expect?

Nissan’s official teasers for the Tekton hint towards a different exterior design from the Duster. Its front facia features a sleek LED headlamp setup with integrated DRLs. The DRLs are connected by a light bar. The front grille has two horizontal chrome strips running across it. The chrome frame on the front bumper lends it a dual-tone look. Along the sides, the SUV looks similar to the Duster with its flared wheel arches, boxy stance, and window-integrated door handles. The alloy wheel design will be the only distinguishing factor in the profile of the two SUVs. At the back, the LED tail lamps will be connected by a light bar.

Not much is known about the Tekton’s interior layout so far. We don’t expect Nissan to borrow the interior design of the Renault Duster. However, the two SUVs will have near-identical features and instrumentation. This means that the Tekton will most likely get a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Other features like a dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and ventilated front seats will also make the cut.

On the safety front, Nissan Tekton will receive 6 airbags, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and more. Higher variants will come with a Level 2 ADAS package. The Renault Duster was awarded a 5-star safety rating by Bharat NCAP. The Tekton is expected to get a similar rating.

Like the Duster, the Tekton will also come with 2 engine options. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine will generate a maximum power output of 100hp and 160Nm of torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine will produce 163hp and 280Nm. Buyers will get the option to link it to a 6-speed manual or DCT gearbox.

Final Thoughts

The Tekton will be placed just below Nissan Gravite in the automaker’s India portfolio. It will receive a strong hybrid powertrain before the end of the year. We expect its prices to start at Rs 11 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival the Renault Duster, Tata Sierra, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, and Honda Elevate in India.
