Xiaomi SU7: Here’s what we know so far

The design of the Xiaomi SU7 draws inspiration from Tesla’s electric sedans and the recent McLaren offerings. Up front, the EV gets slim LED headlamps and a tapering bonnet. At the rear, the LED tail lamps are connected by a sleek light strip. It stands at dimensions of 4,997mm x 1,963mm x 1,440mm. It has a wheelbase of 3,000mm. The kerb weight of the SU7 will lie within the 1,980 – 2,205kg range, depending on the variant.

Certain variants of the Xiaomi SU7 will be equipped with a LIDAR scanner. This scanner will find its use in a lot of safety features. The B-pillar of the sedan has an integrated camera, which confirms the presence of facial unlock tech. There will be 2 wheel size options on offer – 19 and 20 inches. The tyre specifications are 245/45 R19 and 245/40 R20 respectively. Xiaomi will launch its debut EV in three variants – SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max.

The Xiaomi SU7 will be made available in RWD and AWD drive configurations. The former comes with a rear-mounted electric motor that produces a maximum power output of 299hp. It can attain a top speed of 210kmph. The AWD SU7 has a dual electric motor that churns out 673hp and can reach a top speed of 265hp. There are two battery pack options on offer as well, but Xiaomi has not revealed their specs so far. The smaller battery pack is reported to be sourced from BYD.

The latest teaser drop from the automaker confirms that the SU7 will run the Xiaomi HyperOS. The recent teaser also suggests that the electric sedan will offer smartphone and smart home connectivity. More remains to be seen at Xiaomi’s ‘Stride’ event today.

Conclusion

Xiaomi is currently gearing up to start the production of the SU7. The final trial phase of the EV concluded recently, following which it completed the homologation process by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) last month. The electric sedan will first go on sale in China. It remains to be seen whether it will be launched in India. Upon launch, the Xiaomi SU7 will rival the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4 globally.
