Hyundai Inster: What’s on offer?

Hyundai Inster will be the automaker’s mass-market electric vehicle globally. The EV’s is 180mm longer than the Casper. It stands at dimensions of 3.8 x 1.6 x 1.6 m and has a 5-seat layout. The Inster is shorter than the Citroen eC3, which is one of the most compact EVs sold in India. The four seats of the Inster can be folded flat to make more room. The rear seats have sliding and reclining functions to increase the leg room.

Inside, the Hyundai Inster receives two 10.25-inch displays for the digital instrument cluster and the touchscreen infotainment system. The centre console also flaunts a wireless charging dock. The pixel theme found on the exterior of the EV is continued inside as well. The Inster’s steering wheel features the graphics found on the turn signals. The EV will have an ADAS package on board as well.

Hyundai Inster will be made available in two battery and engine options. Entry-level trims will be powered by a front-axle-mounter electric motor that can produce a maximum power output of 96hp and 147Nm of torque. This engine can accelerate the EV from 0-100 kmph in 11.7 seconds while attaining a top speed of 140kmph. The 42kWh battery pack on the entry-level variants offers a driving range of 300km.

The top-spec variants of the Hyundai Inster can produce a maximum power output of 113hp and 147Nm of torque. They can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 10.6 seconds with their top speed capped at 150kmph. The 49kWh battery pack on these variants offers a driving range of 350km. Both battery packs support 120kW DC charging. The EV comes with an 11kW onboard charger.

Simon Loasby, Senior Vice President and Head of the Hyundai Design Center, said, “With INSTER, we’ve taken the small SUV image to a bold new place for the global audience. INSTER punches well above its weight with distinctive design and an interior that maximizes its potential in exciting, customer-centric ways. With INSTER we’re redefining what it means to drive a sub-compact EV.”

Conclusion

Hyundai Inster EV will launch first in Korea this summer, followed by Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. It remains to be seen if Hyundai will bring the Inster EV to India. The automaker’s current plans are focused on launching the Creta EV. The Hyundai Kona EV was discontinued in India this month, creating a void for the automaker to fill in the midsize electric SUV segment. If the Hyundai Inster is launched in India, it will rival Tata Tiago EV, Citroen eC3, and Tata Punch EV.
