Xiaomi has launched its debut electric car, SU7, in China at a starting price of CNY 215,900 (~ Rs 24.90 lakh). It undercuts the price of the Tesla Model 3 in China by CNY 44,000. Xiaomi SU7 was first showcased at the Mobile World Congress earlier this year. The delivery rollout for the electric sedan will begin by the end of this month.

Xiaomi SU7: The next big EV?

Xiaomi SU7 is available in four variants – SU7, SU7 Pro, SU7 Max, and a limited Founder’s Edition. The Xiaomi SU7 Pro is priced at CNY 245,900 (~ Rs 28.86 lakh). Meanwhile, the SU7 Max fetches CNY 299,900 (~ Rs 35.20 lakh). The sedan draws design inspiration from the new crop of McLaren cars and Tesla sedans. It stands at dimensions of 4,997mm x 1,963mm x 1,440mm. It has a wheelbase of 3,000mm. The kerb weight of the SU7 lies between 1,980 – 2,205 kg, depending on the variant.

There are two battery pack options available for the Xiaomi SU7. Both batteries are sourced from CATL. The entry-level and mid-spec variants get a 73.6kWh battery pack. The top-spec SU7 Max variant is equipped with the larger 101kWh unit. On a single charge, these battery packs offer a driving range of at least 700km (CLTC). The automaker is expected to introduce a 150kWh battery pack next year, which could offer a driving range of up to 1,200 km.

Using Xiaomi’s 486V architecture, these battery packs can power the electric sedan up to 350km in just 15 minutes of charge. The larger 871V architecture can offer a whopping 510km of driving range after a 15-minute charge.

Talking about the powertrain, the Xiaomi SU7 is available in single and dual-motor options. In a rear-mounted engine configuration, the electric sedan can produce a maximum power output of 299hp while attaining a top speed of 210kmph. The AWD SU7 can produce a maximum power output of 673hp. It can reach a top speed of 265kmph. The top-spec SU7 Max can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 2.78 seconds. Meanwhile, the limited Founder’s Edition can accomplish this feat in an amazing 1.98 seconds while putting out a maximum power output of 986hp.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi SU7 also gets special connectivity features. It also comes with premium accessories like a mini fridge in the cabin. It remains to be seen whether the electric sedan will be launched in India. Globally, the Xiaomi SU7 rivals the likes of the Tesla Model 3, BYD Seal, and BMW i4.
